Best Movies of 2022

2022 was a much needed return to normal. The high alert of the Covid years finally started to wane. In March, Cinema Faith began podcasting again after a two year hiatus. And most welcome of all, trips to the movie theater became a regular pastime once again.

Those who ventured back to the silver screen were rewarded with one of the best years of film in recent history. There’s just no getting around it — 2022 was incredible. The year featured Oscar-worthy “fun” movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Top Gun: Maverick, towering performances in The Whale and Tár, three visceral cinematic experiences in You Won’t Be AloneAftersun, and All Quiet on the Western Front, and three perfect films in The FabelmansWomen Talking, and The Banshees of Inisherin.

The Oscars honored most of them, but snubbed You Won’t Be Alone completely. The ceremony itself was a bore, but maybe that’s fitting after the infamous slap from 2021. Regardless, at the end of the day there was little to complain about with such magnificent art on display.

Now we invite you to revisit the ten movies that made it to our final list below. Re-read the reviews, re-listen to the podcasts, and savor this incredible year all over again. Our evolving top ten list for 2023 is already up and running. What will the new year bring? It’s impossible to say. But one thing’s for sure, it would take something extraordinary to top a year like this one.

Thank you to all of the people who engaged with our work in 2022. This site wouldn’t exist without you. Please join us in toasting a truly great year at the movies.
