I Saw the TV Glow

Oscar season is months away, but we may have already seen the best movie of 2024. I Saw the TV Glow is a haunting tour de force from writer/director Jane Schoenbrun that will be glowing on screens for many years to come.

Schoenbrun is a millennial filmmaker and Glow feels tailor made for that audience. Instead of Nickelodeon, Owen (Justice Smith) and Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine) watch the “Young Adult Network” which broadcasts the hit show The Pink Opaque. One day Maddy disappears and when she returns, she has a much different take on The Pink Opaque. What if it wasn’t a TV show at all? What if it was a real world that Owen and Maddy can travel to anytime they want? Schoenbrun isn’t just speaking to 90’s television kids. Glow is a film for anyone who’s ever felt a disconnect between who they are and who they’re supposed to be.

Join Jon and Tim as they discuss growing up on Nickelodeon, Kevin Costner’s big gamble, the Brewer’s playoff chances, watching shows with your family, Tim’s fly fishing tips, Justice Smith as an introvert in a leading role, Fred Durst’s toxic masculinity, Jon’s love for fall, creating mood with cinematography, idealizing art from our youth, the horror of living a divided life, how LGBTQ struggles are a matter of life and death, and the hope that it’s never too late to be your true self.
