The Brutalist

Welcome to the season finale of the Cinema Faith podcast! 2024 was an incredible year for film and we’re ending it by discussing a movie up for 10 Oscar nominations: The Brutalist.

Set in post-World War II Europe, The Brutalist tells the fictional story of an immigrant Lásló (Adrian Brody) and his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) who flee to America to escape the Holocaust. Lásló, an architect by trade, can’t believe his luck when a wealthy patron (Guy Pearce) hires him to build his dream project. But he quickly discovers there are strings attached. Brady Corbet masterfully directs this epic story that proves to be both timeless and relevant.

Join Jon and Tim as they discuss the Full House Hawaii episode, re-watching Contact, Tim’s Taylor Swift story, discovering Dad Rock, theater smells, movie screenings for old people, the underrated Adrian Brody, Jon’s awkward theater experience, Guy Pierce’s creepy performance, the controversial ending, predatory art patrons, America’s treatment of immigrants, scapegoating the least of these, and how to creatively fight against evil.
