Hit Man

Ah summer. The time for dumb, big-budget action movies that explode on a movie theater near you. Unless you’re Richard Linklater. Linklater’s Hit Man contains all the fun of the season while still being smart, philosophical, and thought-provoking. It’s a summer movie miracle.

Glen Powell plays Gary Johnson, a real-life undercover agent who pretended to be a hit man for the police in order to obtain confessions from criminals. One of the fake hit men he portrays is Ron, an effortlessly cool assassin who’s everything Gary isn’t in real life. Gary is insecure and single; Ron is confident and capable of attracting the woman of his dreams (Adria Arjona). But eventually, Gary’s dual personas catch up with him and he’s forced to choose who he really wants to be.
